Reverse Engineering project
FOR MY REVERSE ENGINEERING PROJECT, I DECIDED TO TAKE APART A DOLLAR TREE FLASHLIGHT AND SEE WHAT GOES IN TO MAKING THIS PRODUCT WORK. WEEK BY WEEK I MAKE MORE PROGRESS MEASURING EACH PART AND LEARNING WHY THINGS ARE.
The flashlight i chose is made of plastic and this is because it is cheap and easy to mold/produce. The plastic components are typically constructed by injection molding using polystyrene. After the injection process, the plastic gets cooled by sending water through channels in the mold. Next they work on the light source and place 3 incandescent bulbs in the flashlight, which is most common. Everything is then welded together and the structure is put in place in the plastic mold. They then complete the switches and controls and sort out the wiring and simply assemble the product. A way I would change the product is by making it out of metal, and the video to the left describes exactly how that is done.
